Episode 2 - Votemojo!

9 October, 2019

About 3 weeks after Episode 1 (including traveling from Malaysia to Singapore to Bali in the meantime) I'm happy to announce Mojosaas Product #1… introducing Votemojo!

TL;DR Votemojo is voting board software that you can embed on your website. You can use it to get customer feedback and to learn what your community really wants!

This is a product I wish I had when I was doing my 12 startup challenge last year. It might even have helped save the startup that I had to shut down.

Votemojo enables anyone to set up a voting board on their own website (or app). This means you can get customer feedback in terms of feature requests or content requests, all prioritised by the people who matter the most - your customers.

It looks a little like this:

Simple right? But wait, there's more! Votemojo handles various other things for you:

  • Social logins
  • Privacy settings
  • Vote weighting
  • Post approval
  • User access controls
  • Data import / export

If you're looking to learn more from your users or customers and make your product roadmap more relevant, give Votemojo a try. There's a 14 day free trial (which by itself should be enough to get some insights!) and after that you have the option to upgrade to simple monthly pricing plan.

Using my own software

In a previous post I talked about 4 different criteria that I now look at when evaluating ideas to work on.

There's actually a 5th one that I forgot to mention - dogfooding.

Dogfooding in the software world means being able to use your own product. There are many software companies that create products purely for an external customer segment that they don't fall into. This is absolutely fine and many successful companies don't dogfood their own software.

However, personally I think in the niche or bootstrapped entrepreneur context, it can be really helpful to "be a user". Note that I say "a user" not "the user" - you should view yourself as just one of many user voices that your product has - but being able to empathise as closely as possible with your end users is a valuable thing to have when you are working either alone or with a small team / limited resources.

So in the upcoming product launches, expect to see other tools that I'll be able to use myself :)
